accessories for dobs

what accessories would any of you reccomend for someone who is buying an 8" dobsonian scope? a 2x barlow comes with the starter kit. i have seen 3x barlows. should i get one? i would like to see a fair amount of detail when viewing the planets. at this point i am not really concerned with imaging. although my girlfriend has a dslr camera, and is good at picture taking, so a t adapter my be a not far off purchase.

Only thing you may need is a collimator. Try the supplied kit and see how you get on first is my advice. Gives you time to read some of the threads here on SGL to see what upgrades interest you and also to get a feel for your telescope. No rush, the stars aren't going anywhere.

I would reccomend some sort of collimation, and maybe a different finder, either a RDF or a Telrad.

....and before you start enthusing your girlfriend about astrophotography.... a Dob mount won't be at all suitable as you need something that tracks really accurately for astrophotography.

A nice 2inch low powered EP. Again not a necessity, but nice. Other than a Cheshire collimator I cant think of any real necessity. Maybe a right angled finder to save your back contorting.

Red dot or straight through finder are essential IMO
