The Moon & Eyepieces

Recommended Posts

What Eyepiece would you recommend to get a large part of the moon very clear? For example half of the moon. Even if i use my 40mm i'm still very close to the moon. My telescope is a Celestron CPC 800.

I use a 13mm LVW for overall views, and BST Explorer 12mm and 8mm for closer views, but my telescopes are very different from yours, I believe the William Optics SPL, 12.5 and 6mm would work a treat in your scope.

At 40mm you should be seeing the whole moon surrounded by a nice amount of space.

If not you need to buy a wide field of view eyepiece.

What size eyepieces does your scope take and what size is your mirror?

A 40mm 1.25" eyepiece in a CPC800 will show .86 of a degree of sky. The moon is approximately .50 degree in apparent diameter so it should fit comfortably in the field of view - without the barlow lens in of course !.

Hi

Have you looked at this http://stargazerslounge.com/primers-tutorials/63184-primer-understanding-choosing-eyepieces.html

Work out the maths with your focal Length being 2032mm and the moon being about 0.5°. Hope this helps!

Also check out http://www.12dstring.me.uk/fov.htm where you can enter your scope details and select various objects to see what they will look like.
