Ritchey Chretiens... visual use?

Recommended Posts

I know Ritchey Cs are meant for imaging and are "astrograph" scopes, but would they be good for looking through visually with eyepieces and the human eye? i.e., if one were purely looking visually would a Ritchey C or a SCT be a better choice?

Thanks

John

I can't say I've used mine visually... then I don't tend to use any of my scopes visually :p... I have used my RC for some Lunar imaging, and it's done a nice job on that.

As a total noob at collimation, once I'd managed to get my head around just how small the movements of the allen key needed to be, I found it pretty easy to get collimated.

If it is for visual only then the SCT is going to bettter than the RC.

I've stuck an eyepiece in my RC and it's OK for the odd occasional view but certainly an RC would not be your weapon of choice for sustained visual work.
