where is the best place to go

Hi all, I have just bought a cheap pair of binoculars and a planisphere following advice from this forum, and i was just wondering where is the best place to go to avoid light pollution (I live in north london!)

are there any places where there are no street lights or similar that anyone knows of?

I don't know London well but I imagine it would be one huge ball of light pollution wherever you are.

Can you maybe drive out to the Essex countryside?

There is a good map here you can zoom in and try to find a dark patch near you.

It's rather depressing though if you live in the south east like me

Scotland or north Wales looks good. Selsey on the south coast also seems to be the place to go for clear skies with little LP.

j45on, thanks for that link. i live near stoke on trent (average at best) but after seeing that map i've not far to go from here. soon as these clouds leave i'll give some a go. (if i'm not too old t drive by then) lol
