Aladin Sky Atlas

I was trying to help a guy on the Maxim Forum who was attempting to identify an object very close to M51.

As it turned out, I was completely wrong, but as other people entered the thread, This Sky Atlas software called Aladin cropped up.

I think it brilliant, but you can judge for yourselves. Perhaps some already know of it. Anyhow here is the link.

I stumbled upon this a few years ago while trying to help a guy find a star he'd 'bought'....its very comprehensive to say the least.

I use it all the time.

It is a fantastic resource although not infallible as if the database it uses is incorrec then Aladin is incorrect.
