Flaming Star Nebula

Recommended Posts

Last night was clear for a few hours and so the target was IC 405 "The Flaming Star Nebula".

This has a lot of red hydrogen in it and a beautiful blueish nebula inside the core and I was hoping the SuperNewt could drag something out of it at F2.8

Looking at the image, it really needs some Ha adding to it. Project for later me thinks when the moon is out.

I did get just under 3 hours on target before the clouds rolled in, but at least I have an image to start from.

Details

TS SuperNewt 200mm @ F2.8

TS OAG + QHY5 + QHY5 + PHD + NEQ6Pro for guiding.

Luminance = 14 x 5min unbinned

RGB = 14 x 2.5min 2xbinned

Total time, 2.91 hours

Hope you like, but I do need to get some Ha into it another time.

Wham! You've really got the blue to stand out and for the Flaming Star the emission nebulosity is really singing. It isn't very strong so when you get some Ha you really will nail the target. Worth considering a mosaic to drag in the Tadpoles, maybe?
