help with upgrading focuser

looking to upgrade my focuser to this

First Light Optics - Skywatcher Dual-Speed Low Profile 1.25/2 inch Crayford Focuser

looking at this im not sure it will fit on my 200p

any ideas if it will go straight on without any sort of adaptors?

As I understand it, yes, it'll be fine. If yo look at the base plate there's a gap in the middle so there might be a gap under it. Phone and ask is the best bet, though I'm sure that if the focuser and base plate are separate on yours the cheaper one will work.... Well if there's a gap and it's a problem then the Telescope Service baseplate for the tube diameter and the 190MN one - save you a tenner as well.

Though, mind to ask the correct questions on fitting.

the same one is for sale on RVO website and says for tubes 7" upwards why cant they just make it clear yes it will fit models e.t.c grrrrr

How it goes is that the £99 ones don't have a baseplate, you undo the grub screws and take the focuser column out of the baseplate mountings and put the replacement in. The £129 ones come with it's matched baseplate.

When I installed my Baader Steeltrack on my SW 250 there was a gap but I filled it with a fillet of black high density foam packing and it worked a treat.

rang opticstar they yes direct replacement no need to drill holes and the harrison telescopes told me i need to drill new holes and theres no base plate they know of to fit it:icon_eek:

You shouldn't need to drill new holes even if the base plate doesn't fit perfectly.

Just use the baseplate from the old focuser?

It doesn't have a base plate it's just a **** single speed focuser but FLO arnt picking up must be busy

Really?

Are there not two or four really small grub screw holes in side of the square plate that touches the OTA?

Not that I'm aware of. it just looks a solid piece

turns out it doesnt fit theres a slight gap under neath i wounder going to try and pack the gap with foam if that doesnt work then i think the 190 version should fitt better

here it is. it just didnt fit so i packed it up with foam gave it a test run the other night and works a treat. focusing is really easy and it looks great. shame that flo never emailed me back though and i had to buy "blind" still i got it next day so i cant complain

Looks like the low-profile one that FLO lists as for 9"+.

I was going to order this part, nice to see it doesn't quite fit. Might have to get the 190MN one.

this is the low profile 2inch one. i bought a baseplate from teleskope service to put on but it also has a gap under the baseplate
