Keeping mounts outside

Hi all,

I'm looking at getting a new mount.

Either HEQ5 or EQ6.

I'd like to try & keep it outside & aligned.

So advice please - does anyone without an obsy keep theirs outside & what do you use to cover it ??

If I can keep outside, it will be the EQ6, if not the HEQ5 will win.

It's going to be used with a Skywatcher ED80, maybe guide scope & dslr, so either mount will easily cope with weight.

Before I built the Obsy I had my HEQ5 on a pier and covered it with a good old fashioned metal dustbin. Never a problem. Had foam in the top of the bin to protect the mount

The only problem you may find is condensation so air it out whenever possible.

Think it's the EQ6 then, should be secure in the garden (well not easy for anyone to pick up & walk off with).

If you are worried then maybe a ground anchor (as for motorbikes etc) and a good quality chain/padlock?

That's a good thought !

Just have to work out, how to attach chain to the legs .......
