the black mark in the NEB is a barge or knot. there seem to be three(?) of them going around jupiter at the moment.

the Io transit was cool because it was over the SEB so you could follow the bright moon against the dark background for quite a lot of its journey:)

seeing was very good tonight :)

Just come in as everythings frozen up, saw one of the moons just reappearing from behind Jupiter - saw the gap grow ever so slowly. Was black spot on the planet itself a barge or the shadow of the remaining moon. Had a superb view with stacks of detail to see

You saw Io appearing from in front (transit) of Jupiter. Against the surface of the planet, moons are hard to pick out, but the trailing shadow (of Io tonight) is much more obvious across the thicker (GRS) belt.

This will explain all and I use it all the time to predict moon transits, etc Jupiter's Moons

This will show GRS times as well - Transit Times of Jupiter's Great Red Spot - Planets - SkyandTelescope.com

Both can be used to look ahead or in the past for events :)
