I've lost the moon

Recommended Posts

:iamwithstupid:I'm new to astronomy so I need some help please. I could see the sky and clouds through my eyepiece. I can focus on streetlights and chimney stacks but I can't find the moon. Even when I can see it in the rear mirror it won't appear in my eyepiece. Am I doing something fundamentaly wrong? Cheers.

Hi Vincent

Have you aligned the finder and the main scope yet? As this is paramount to you being able to locate objects in the night sky.

This process is best done in day light on a distant object NOT THE SUN!

It's ok I've found it. it's over birmingham at the moment. I'll put it in the post for you. seriously though it's either your finder needs adjusting or most likely focus. Put your weakest eyepiece in and start from there. take it fully back and then roll it in until focus is achieved.
