Kain
This is the first time I have ever tried to image the sun and sunspots, so be gentle.Really pleased considering it was my first go. The wavy patterns on the suns disk was high cloud.I have noticed the optics on the Tasco is so Rubbish compared to the dob, it really makes a difference. I'm going to get a sheet of this solar film for the dob I think too.I used 20mm EP, 2x Barlow and a Toilet Roll with a mirror in the bottom (or might as well be lol)Kain

geppetto
Agreed, great start mate...Try with the DOB if you can as you'll get much better resolutionMight have a go at that today if the sun pops out
Kain
Only problem,I'm not sure how to go about making a cap for the dob. Only thing I can think of is seeing if I can get another OTA cap, cut a 4/5 inch hole out the middle and attach the solar film to that.I really don't want to do with with my main cap. HmmKain
Kai
Just looking at this in the Pst and Zs66I must say the Zs66 gives a nice white light grouping whilst with the Pst you see the turbulence around the sunspot better.Ps There a 2 nice large Proms on the eastern/western edges this morning. If the cloud stays away then i will have a crack at them. geppetto
cut a 4/5 inch hole out the middle and attach the solar film to that.Sounds a good plan but cut the hole off centre or the secondary will block the light coming through.A Blue Peter way of making a cap:Bottle of PVA glueSome A3 sheets of cardCuts card lengthways into 1" stripsWrap strips around OTA and glue together on top of each otherto build up a ply thickness. When thick enough, cut a circle of card and glue that to the ply ringCut circle offset from centre and glue on the Baader filter.Just make sure whatever you do, it can't blow off
Kain
Thanks Phil,I will have a go at that.I might order some Baader of Auntie Flo in a while. and give it a try.I'm £50 quid up this week thanks to a tax rebate!Kain
