Planetary Guiding

Recommended Posts

I think you answered your own question!

It's not normal to guide, but it can be done ( check with Kev)...usually with planetary imaging you're using webcams, video etc which can correct and stack the frames for the final image...

For the very short exposure times guiding is not necessary - any deviatons are taken care of by the stacking software. A solid, vibration free, mount is, however, a necessity as well as taking care of vibrations from the camera eg using mirror lock with a DSLR. Focus is critical - so an electronic focusser is useful - so get it right! The stacking software can do nothing about an out of focus image.
