just wondering why the end cap has 2 'holes' with one of them blanked off? why not just have 1

I think you can store the cap from the hole on the blanked off one.

The blanked off one is a dummy where you can place the cap from the other hole so as not to loose it. The small hole can be used for two things - to reduce the brightness of the moon when it's full for more comfortable viewing - or to cover it with baader solar film for viewing the sun in white light

Warning! Never look at the sun in a telescope without appropriate filters or proper solar scope - damage to the eye will be instant and permanent!

ahh i see thankyou. have got a small diy filter from the baader filter stuff, just wondered why the 2nd one was there.

Be REALLY careful with that stuff, it works great but check for pinholes before every use.

Sorry bumping this mega old thread but I just have to ask a question. If I turn this hole between the gaps in my spider will it remove differentiation spikes on solar system objects? (he said more in vain hope than expectation)

Yep, it'l remove the spikes, and maybe improve contrast, at the cost of brightness and resolution.
