Cygnus from the Suburbs

Recommended Posts

I'm staying in the Midlands tonight- it looked nice and clear out so I wanted to find out was possible from a light polluted site with almost no equipment!

The set-up, Fuji Finepix S5 Pro, static tripod, 50mm F1.4 lens, locking cable release.

A stack of 33 ten second frames @ ISO3200 f4.

EDIT- From the same session an 18 x 10s stack of M31 in Andromeda- also with undriven tripod/50mm lens.

Not bad what you can capture with nothing!

That's impressive, and with such short exposures!

I had to keep them really short to avoid trailing- it was too much on 15 seconds with the 50mm lens. ISO3200 was pushing the noise levels just a bit too. Still interesting whats possible will perhaps try some anti LP filtration next time or even some rudimentry tracking device (Barn Door mount?)

well done.. good shots and worth pursuing a little in processing.

Had a play with the background level in the M31 image, you could do a lot more with the origional data.
