Positioning the pier

4 walls and the door are all up in the obs. Today I have picked up the mother of all piers!! Well, it looks big to me!! So my question reallys is about positioning it.

If tonight I look through the Polar Scope and get the pier in such a position that Polaris is in the bubble - That should be about right and then I'll just need to do the finer adjustments?

Does that sound about OK?

Sounds like a reasonable plan....

the main issue will probably be positioning the pier to give maximum clearance within the observatory for the scope etc.

Assuming you have the standard type of azimuth adjustment on your EQ mount- make sure the screws are set to the middle of the adjustable region before setting the pier. You don't want to run out of travel during the fine adjustment stage.

Cheers Laser_Jock - Just been out and positioned the pier, have got both sets of bolts on the mount roughly in the middle, so maximum adjustment both sides.

Just got to wait for the concrete to harden now! Next Monday it will all be secured down!
