Numpty Drift Alignment question

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

Been reading about drift alignment and I'm almost there in understanding how it all works ... I think.

Perhaps this numpty question will show you how much I don't yet understand!

I can see that the Altitude of the mount axis can be set using the drift of a star in the east just above the horizon. Is this process the same as setting the latitude for your observing location (e.g. 51 degrees north)?

If the latitude is set correctly, why would you want to do this 'eastern star' drift test again if you don't change the observing location?

I'm guessing that the 'eastern' drift test will enable you to fine tune the latitude setting even in the same location.

Confused ... me ... yep

Thanks

Pete
