Dovetail Question

Any thoughts on the best dovetail to attach a Celestron C8 SCT OTA to a Skywatcher nEQ6. The nEQ6 puck accepts both Losmandy and Vixen dovetails (the Losmandy looks the better option since it is wider, but I'm no expert).

Hiya,

the NEQ6 comes with both pucks, you just bolt the correct one on using 3 Allen key grub screws.

If I had the choice I would to for the Losmandy style dovetail as it is stiffer due to it's wider profile. However, a Vixen style dovetail is not the end of the world using a C8, I had a C9.25 with it and it worked.

I use the ADM Vixen dovetail on my C8, along with an ADM saddle on the mount. Very solid combination and no worries about flexing. However in your case getting just a Losmandy type dovetail will be cheaper.

Either will do the job.

I used the Vixen type on my 8" lx - OK no issues.

It was only when I went to the larger 10" I changed to the Losmandy.

Now as "standard" I use the Losmandy on the C9.25 and C11.
