Our Earths Orbit

Hi everyone,

Dont mean to teach anyone how to suck eggs but this video is really quite cool..

I certainly didnt know that the Earth's path along the ecliptic is not a perfect oval ending at the same point.

I'm assuming of course that the info in this clip is true.

It had never occurred to me that the Earth's orbit might be so complex. I shall have to go and do some reading up on it.

Quite scary when you see Earth hurtling round the sun like that - makes you realise how vulnerable we are to the influences of other objects. Very interesting - thanks for sharing

I think they distorted the orbit for emphasis. The Earths orbit is 99.98% of a perfect circle, so its not very elliptical at all. So it moves about 5 million km between its nearest and furthest points in the orbit, but this is out of 150 million km in its orbit.

So if the earth was going round in a 1m orbit, it would be about 1.5cm inside/outside the circle at its worst.
