Collimation help needed

Recommended Posts

HI , What makes you think your scope is out of colli ? IF IT IS THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO TO PUT IT RIGHT IS ON A STAR. You should check that  the diffraction rings are all concentric  if they are the scope is ok if not ie they are oval shape to one side it is out of colli then you need to re collimate on a star to do this you need first to check the scope has push pull screws on the front cell let me know and i will try and talk you through it .

Regards Tom.

Steve came round and gave me a hand to do mine.

We removed the mirror and placed a small paper ring dead center of the mirror (As a reference point) Re-installed the mirror, then placed a collimating eye piece in the eyepiece holder (Eyepiece with a wire cross hair in it) then adjust the main mirror and the secondary mirror untill the paper ring was dead center of the cross hair.

I only had to do the secondary mirror as the main mirror was dead on.

Adjustment was made by gently turning the 3 screws on the secondary mirror - it all seemed a bit daunting at first but it was really quite simple. It's handy to have someone with you when you do these things (Extra pair of hands and eyes).
