Celestron 6se initial setup

Recommended Posts

Just got the Celestron 6se and assembled it. As far as upgrading the software I followed the instructions on these sites:

Hand control update: http://www.nexstarsite.com/OddsNEnds/HCFirmwareUpgradeHowTo.htm

Got the downloadable files from here: Downloads / Celestron.com[]=415&Submit=Search

So I updated motor and hand firmware.

What do I do with the NexRemote, NexTour and NexGPS???

The manual is very vague on all of this...

NexRemote allows you to control your mount from a computer. You link your moun to the PC via a serial lead and set a virtual port for other software such as Stellarium to use.

NexGPS allows you to use a PC linked GPS to set the location/time on the mount automatically. Links in to NexRemote.

I think the NexTour is somekind scripted guide around the sky with the PC doing the guiding for you.

I never even bothered installing any of the software that came with the scope, the handset is able to do pretty much everything I want out the box and I imagine that the free alternatives for mount control are probably better and more regularly updated than the Celestron software.
