Connecting a camera

I'm sure this has been done to death... But my skywatcher 200p claims to have a 'direct slr connection'... This should imply I can instantly attach my slr but I'm guessing it's not that simple? There's lots of talk about t rings and t adaptors on these forums... But do I need both? Or just a nikon t ring (seeing as it says it has a direct connection)? Thanks

It doesn't imply instantly

Unscrew the bit where the 1.25" EP goes in - this reveals a thread. (T-thread.)

You then need a Nikon T-ring. (e.g. http://www.harrisontelescopes.co.uk/acatalog/Nikon_T_Ring.html but make sure it's the right one for your camera body!)

Ah see in my logic... Having to buy an additional component means I'm connecting through that! And therefore it isn't direct!! But thanks for clearing that up so quickly and clearly for me!

If you have a skywatcher barrow, check the top. Mine has a thread which connects to a 'T mount' for a camera. You may need the extra length of the barlow (sorry, this may not apply with a reflector) unscrew lens at bottom, to bring the camera to focus. This fits in the ep holder.

It won't come to focus with the 2" adaptor without a Barlow I believe - T-thread will.
