Patrick Moores 50th Anniversary

As many of you are aware Sir Patrick Moore has presented the Sky at Night non stop every month for 50 years this year.

One hell of an achievement.

Thanks for posting this. Sir Patrick has been a source of inspiration to me since I was very young. I doubt I would be stargazing now if it were not for his infectious enthusiasm!

Thanks a lot Al. It was thoughtful of you to let others, who are not BAA members, have a chance to pay homage to the great man.

I have done so, and not ashamed to say I had a tear in my eye as I wrote the the words of appreciation and admiration I feel, for whom I see as the beacon of amateur astronomers. I met him only once, when he came to Carlisle for an out of town BAA meeting.

He paid a visit to our Society observatory, and we talked for a little while. A treasured memory indeed. I took his picture while he posed with a teacher from a local school, and I completely forgot to get myself taken with him. What an oversight.
