Clear sky chart site.

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this site is well known, it seems to be a new site, Google: astroweather-panel

It brings up a clear sky panel for London (UK) similar to the US site at cleardarksky.com.

Worth a look??:)

Ah, 7Timer.

Go to: 7Timer! - numerical weather forecast for anywhere over the world

Set your location etc. and then save as a bookmark, it'll update every time you go in and refresh it.

If you have an Android phone, go to the Market and search for "AstroPanel" and install the one listed as "Astro Panel (*New*)". It does the same but includes sunset/rise etc. times.

7Timer is based on unmoddified GFS forecast data so can be a bit hit and miss, especially on cloud cover.

Cheers

Ian

So using the key which are the best conditions for us then? Cloud cover and darkness are obvious but what about the rest? I notice seeing is measured in inches but inches of what?

The inches (") symbol also denotes seconds of arc - roughly: millionths of a circle

Great site. The parameters are explained in the documentation:

For deep sky the most important are cloud cover, transparency and darkness. For planetary etc you'd mostly be concerned with cloud cover and seeing, and maybe instability.
