dew shield removal

Recommended Posts

dont shoot me for askingthis.....

I want to take off the dew shield on this:

William Optics - ZenithStar 66 SD APO

is it easy...i didnt want to blunder ahead, fiddling about and break it(the type of thing i do often)

I assume its matter of:

1, unscrew the tripod base attachemnt foot..

2, unscrew the silver screw on the top of the focuser.

3, unscrew the black erm thingy at the objective end

4, pull it(dew shield) back wards over the focuser and off.

ahh no i would have to remove the focuser completely? is that hard? or risky?

Anypossible complications?

:)

Sounds about right. The focuser will need to come off. Should be held to the tube with some grub screws.

`can i just ask ... Why?`

I want to do some daylight digi scopeing/nature viewing. Its useful to make the scope as light as possible for this. The shield is just excess weight.

SOme point in future it may go back on. Depends how the photography goes.....

In that case I'd keep the hood on. Having it extended, will cut down on daytime glaring. It's not as if it's going to be terribly heavy and without the lens hood on, the lens cap won't fit.

I don't see the point in this personally. The dew shield adds only a few ounces to the weight and protects the lense from accidental damage. Seems too much of a risk to me. I have a ZS70 which uses the same tube assembly as the 66 and I don't find it particularly heavy, at least not enough to remove the dewshield.
