Skywatcher Synscan AZ Mount - new tripod

Well I've just put some new tripod legs on my Synscan AZ mount and it now seems much more rigid - have a look at the photos.

Vixen legs available from Astro-Boot (say they have lots in stock) - £14

I needed to drill out the holes in the mount from 7mm to 8mm and drill another 3 holes in the accessory tray to lock the legs in place.

Mounting botls supplied with the legs, however you will need 3 4mm wing nuts and bolts for the accessory tray.

I'll need a clear night to test it out - hoping it will improve the GOTO repeatability.

Clear skies

Managed to get out for the first time last night.

I think it has made a big improvement - GOTO was accurate and repeatable - in the FOV of my 24mm-8mm zoom every time with the at 28mm.

I also found it a lot more stable when focusing - any vibration died down quickly even at x160.

The tripod is about the same height as the original but more stable even when fully extended.

I have not made a larger accessory tray yet - not sure I'm going to need.

Clear skies
