My first try at m51 and I'm surprised at how bright that little guy is. Settings and details as follow.

Canon 30D w/ 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM

on Barn door tracker w/ manual crank tracking

4 subs w/ 3 darks

total exposure time/setting:

240sec @ f/2.8 set to 200mm

not bad for a manually tracked image I hope!

Blimey - I am well impressed with that. I am new myself to astronomy and will try and give M51 a go tonight providing there is no cloud and I can find it.

Cheers

thanks Martin and Keith, I try to produce what I can with what I have. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well this came out. I had a hard time getting a decent look at M101 so I wasn't expecting much with this one. Didn't realize how much brighter this little gem (or gems I guess) are. :)

I am just trying to decide if its worth going out tonight... probably not... well not an all nighter anyway .. as luna will be playing silly burgers in the MW ...

Nice ISS Pass at 22:11 BST almost directly overhead and Due W-E... I have a cunning plan.... which usually results in rain or clouds...
