Which 2"/1.25" Barlow

Hi All,

I want to invest in a good quality 2x Barlow that takes both 2" and 1.25" EPs, I know there are a few on the market but I would like some feedback from those with any good Barlows please?

SW APO and GSO 2" 2x have good ratings and good value. There is also 1.6x Antares. If you have wide angle / long focal length eyepieces then you could look at Powermate/TeleXtender.

In UK GSO is branded usually as Revelation. It's in few shops like modernastronomy, rothervalleyoptics, and so on.

Hi Simon

I have the Tele-vue 2" 2x Powermate.

Not cheap but absolutely superb. Highly recommend it, it adds nothing but magnification.

Keeps the exit pupil in the same place. Razor sharp. Doesn't seem like your using a Barlow at all.

The Revelation is available from Telescope House for £40. Utter bargain. I bought one recently and it's excellent. Seems invisible in the optical train and no aberations introduced.

I use the Antares 1.6x 2" barlow. It's excellent and another one that seems to "disappear" in use, apart from the additional magnification.

Interesting to hear the Revelation / GSO 2" highly rated - I'm thinking of a 2x 2" 2x to compliment the Antares

I've used the Powermates and, though expensive, they are wonderful devices
