  1. Very interesting to see some faces on here local to me I’m just outside Newbury in Compton we should do a meet up here on the ridgeway Bortle 4 I would say you can see the Milky Way on a good night from my back garden 🙂 keep doing what your doing and enjoy 🙂🙂🙂🙂
  2. Ok so I have now had some time with the solar continuum (the BAADER version) I cannot say whether it’s the earlier version or later (used purchase) however I have done some A/B testing and for me it’s a clear win no doubt details snap into focus and I’m def getting more details in the umbra / penumbra before I could distinguish but not separate now it’s obvious I can also see more sunspots with filter in so again a massive Win for me I’m glad I put this post up here b cause for me I would 100% reccomend this just wish I could try the Altair and side by side it to see if it’s any different 🙂🙂
  3. I thought so it was so strange though to only be happening on the southern limb I will watch out for it again though was odd lol thanks though for confirming buddy
  4. What’s just as interesting is if there is a formula for the ultimate experience ??
  5. Interesting about the zoom I don’t have a zoom am thinking about getting one though 🤔🤔
  6. Ahh that would make sense so less is effectively more 🙂🙂
  7. Good afternoon so a bit of a summary .. I observe practically every day in white light and today for 20 mins had great seeing I normally use a Meade 3000 16mm and get great views of the umbra and penumbra with a continuum filter but today the seeing allowed me to use the 6.7mm Meade and what a view it was not often do I get to use this over the last month however I noticed something rather odd I’m assuming it was the seeing or atmospheric disturbance just wondering if anyone else is experienced this …. So was observing with the 6.7 super sharp contrasts very happy and decided to move around the limb which a agai was super sharp in contrast that is until I went to the southern limb this and only this area today had a strange movement to the limb itself like it was changing in shape and texture somewhat I was observing on axis of the eyepiece so no distortion there went around again and didn’t see anything on the east north or western limbs just the southern it’s hard to describe but looked somewhat like very faint bubbling or movement it wasn’t sharp like the rest of the disc is this just atmospheric disturbance playing tricks or something else ??? Never seen this before and the seeing was good clear skies gang
  8. Ok so have been white light observing now for a little while and I’ve noticed something that perhaps is my imagination or perhaps not … when using simple eyepiece designs .. kellners / plossls etc I find I get a much clearer view when compared to more complex and corrected eyeoieces such as my TMB II’s is there a reason for this and would it be as useable to observe with a zoom eyepiece ?? Looking for are to hearing other peoples opinions and real world reasons for this clear skies Phill
  9. Hey Dave thanks for that I recieved the 16 yesterday and the 25 should arrive today or tommorow so am super excited to hear another person sing the graces of these two FL in the range I can’t wait to give them first light and do some comparisons between other similar FL ep’s many thanks for chiming in I agree the 6.7 is slightly tighter on the ER side of things but not a contact EP so still happy and the views are sharp 📌 so can’t wait to try out the others just hunting down a 9.7 now for a half set 🙂
  10. I don’t want to take over this thread but as it’s a recent thread with lots of real life wedge users in I hope someone may help .. Can anyone point me toward the relevant thread that compares the view between an apeture white light filter and the Herschel wedge for visual please ?? I found it before and now I cannot find it anywhere maybe I’ve just been looking at the sun too long lol
  11. Ok so that’s good enough For me if you notice some improvement then it’s a done deal I’ve just bought the BAADER 1.25” version used so for me it was a £50 investment I will report on my findings when I receive it and get fully setup with it nice pic by the way honestly the green colour really doesn’t bother me at all makes it just that bit more interesting actually lol and as I’m going to be using it with an F11 achro it should tidy up the little bit of CA I notice too 🙂👍👍
  12. So in your opinion it’s well worth getting it then ? Can you describe the differences. You visually see with the filter in and out please buddy ?
  13. Well this was interesting to say the least . As someone relatively new to regular solar visual observation this does make me think about getting a UV/IR cut filter regardless we can buy a filter but not new eyeballs 👀!!!
  14. Yes I haven’t seen any reviews of the Altair one anywhere !!!
  15. Ok so I have read various topics on various forums about this subject and I would like to know a couple of things here if I may . firstly can I get the opinions of people that own these filters secondly would like to hear from people who own the Altair Astro continuum please and how it compares to the BAADER version I intend on using this filter for visual white light only and I would like to hear some real world VISUAL observations please pros cons good bad etc I know that it’s not going to be a massive improvement and more subtle but would really like to hear the opinions from some people that regularly observe white light please as I know the atmosphere can be confusing in regards to the effects of this filter which one should I buy an ALTAIR or a BAADER ?? many thanks and clear skies Phill
  16. My favourite unusual eyepiece is my Bausch and Lomb 4mm Ortho for splitting doubles on those wonderful nights of seeing 🙂
  17. Ok so I now have a 6.7 a 16mm coming and a 25mm coming which is great can’t wait to try them out still looking for the 9.5 and the 40 though it seems like hens teeth lol
  18. I’m inexperienced and in no way to be advising anyone if anything here but if it was me I would mark the center point of the focuser hole and run a line oarralle to the end of the tube (sky side) then measure the longest therefore widest distance which should then be the opposite point runs line down the inside of the tube with tape and a pen then when the new foxuser is in run a simple laser collimator through the focuser and make sure it matches that line and is true if not shin it so it all lines up ?? Maybe I’m over thinking this ??
  19. That I couldn’t honestly say buddy as I’m a purely star charts person what I meant about the phone ruining your night vision isn’t about the app itself it’s when someone rings or you get a notification (which is shown in normal light ) 🙂 maybe these two people were using it wrong ?? As I say it’s not my personal experience it’s second hand but good to hear all sides as always
  20. I’m beginning to learn that the hard way lol I’m seriousness I do totally understand I’ll see what turns up 🙂
  21. Ok so I’m noticing a lot of people with pairs of these 3000’s are you all using them to binoview then ?? I can’t even find a single anywhere of any FL apart from 6.7mm (of which I own) 🤦‍♂️🤣
  22. Hey buddy yes they both really struggle with the setup and accuracy of it bud it seems to crash on them honestly I don’t know whether it could be their phones or software 🤷‍♂️ Hey he other thing they said was that when they recieved a message or call it reverted back to white screen killing their session
