How do I (in photoshop) stop my stars from bloating when I do my stretching.
Any help would be gratefully received

I've not done any formal testing but I understand that the sensor in my D5500 is "ISO invariant" so I have been using anything from ISO 200 to 1600 and increasing the exposure in post if necessary.
try this... https://dslr-astrophotography.com/iso-dslr-astrophotography/
Yes Jim that's the list ... and apparently my Canon 80D is also ISO invariant ....

I would be interested in any findings from your experiments. 🙂
Ok will do ... have you done any tests for the best ISO to use, I'm never really sure what is best.
I saw a list somewhere online for best Iso for different cameras but can't find it now?

Ok thanks Jim for the reply ... think I will try f4 next time I'm out as I agree and get blobby stars myself @ f2.8 and f3.2 .... may even try f5.6

Thats a great result Jim, are you sure it was f4, don't usually get spikes ...... any filters used and you must be in a quite dark sky area?
Did you have to crop the image to get this?

Probably.
Crab is small object and you need larger telescope to properly image it.
With 200mm lens and DSLR - it will be less than 100px wide in the image. Even with serious gear - you can't expect it to be much larger - at best around 350px
However - you should be able to detect it without too much trouble with that setup - it is bright enough.
Thanks for the reply .... yes it was very small and stretching did bring it out but no clarity really ....... I also imaged the Rosette Nebula same night and that was sooo much better.

No luck really ... am I expecting too much from my Canon 80D (not modded) and 70-200mm f2.8 lens iso 400 in a Bortle 6 area ...... AZ-GTI in EQ mode ..... would the 150-600mm at f5.6 be any better.

Good job done .

Thats really good 👍
What gear did you use?
Mark
Canon 80D ... sigma 150-600mm lens @ 150mm ...... f5.6 ...... Sky Watcher AZ-GTI in Alt az mode.
Bortle sky 6 and full moon behind me, so quite pleased
90x20s Images ... no darks or flats.

Dont know how often this happens ( new to astronomy) that Mars and M45 can be captured in the same field of view ...... so thought I would give it a go.
.
CC always welcome.

What equipment did you use and what are you using to process with?
Did you add the defraction spike, it is quite strong.
The colour is interesting but it does show the nebulousity and there is a lot more in this image then an earlier capture, looks much better.
Canon 80D .. Sigma 150-600mm ... AZ-GTI in Alt az mode ... 90 x20sec .. iso 800 ...... deep sky stacker and photoshop ...
Yes I added the defraction spike as I like the affect .. it gives some balance I think... Agree a bit too sharp and bright, I might reduce it a bit on the original image.

Anyone else use the Canon 80D and tell me what the best iso to use
Had another try at Orion Nebula, thought I had nailed the focus but not quite
.
Can the focus drift with cold conditions ??... Your CC very welcome

I think the saturation increased when I reduced the size for the internet. .. this may be better

Thank you. Just brought the rig back indoors after 40x 120 min Orion Nebula. Decided to try to get a better result than last time when I made loads of errors like not makign sure the camera battery was fully charged! LOL
Now for the stacking and processing!
Good luck with WHN
Tried WHN but no joy ... too much light pollution alas.

Horsehead Nebula ... Flame Nebula ...... Witches Head Nebula ............ all in Orion.... First two close by the left hand belt star Alnitak ....... and last one close to Rigel ... bottom right star in orion .. this is the one I am trying for as we speak.

Aurora watch is showing that it's possible to see them tonight in Scotland and the Shetlands for about an hour each side of midnight.

Images of birds are allowed, but I couldn't see any of your problem astro subs, they all look like stacked images ?
Michael
Ah Sorry Michael I only post some of my finished images on there, and as you can see I haven't been doing astro very long...... I am very grateful for your help though.
-
It probably was a focus error, unfortunately I have reformatted the memory card as I gave up on it.... but will have to keep an eye on my focussing and trails ......
I have a lot to learn on this astro stuff, only started in December but you guys/gals are helping me along.
Freddie said " Changing exposure will not improve focus!" ... yes I understand that, ...... I was wondering though if my images were overexposed the stars would just get lost in the background.
Also it was quite a bright moon in the vicinity and some whispy cloud about so may be that didnt help.... also Bortle 6/7

It might be that your stars are out of focus
Ah ok ... might it be that the exposrue is incorrect ... e.g too bright

Or are too un-round for DSS to recognise as stars.
Your Flickr link is to images of birds ??
Michael
Ok Thanks.
My flickr link is to my flickr images regardless what they are ... is this not allowed.
