  1. I'm looking at this one for mine https://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/baader-clicklock-m68-clamp-for-hexafoc-focusers-bresser-omegon-and-explore-scientific.html Have asked the question, but surely there must be a filter thread?
  2. Found a cheaper solution here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bartscher-Electric-patio-heater-2000D/dp/B002XC3FEG/ref=asc_df_B002XC3FEG/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=435913082336&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2067592359596679348&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007011&hvtargid=pla-826161128049&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=98056361181&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=435913082336&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2067592359596679348&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007011&hvtargid=pla-826161128049 ๐Ÿ˜†
  3. Anybody use filter holders to change through them? Need to change my EP holders to click locks. Thereโ€™s no thread for a filter at the bottom of the 2โ€ section, only on the 2โ€-1.25โ€ reducer, is that normal? ie all 2โ€ filters mount to the EP?
  4. So... is Barnardโ€™s Loop not necessarily an HB target?
  5. How far do you go with it? You could have the heated shield with a band around the bottom and bands around telrad and finder, with a 4 way controller and power supply for ยฃ250+ ๐Ÿค”
  6. What regulator and power supply do you use? Do you use a shield around the top too?
  7. And that ultimately means Iโ€™ll need an HB filter after all ๐Ÿ˜‚ Better write to Santa..
  8. Silly question... where do you wrap the band around the OTA? Top, middle, bottom..
  9. Thanks - I'll have a read later ๐Ÿ‘ I'll have to see how the APM 13 performs. I shall no doubt add the 20 in the coming months if I really like it but looking at that compared to the ES 24 I have, the FOV is very similar. Noted that you said you normally step down from 21 to 13 so I'll see whether the 16 gets much use too. The 9mm might be the dilemma, as I'm not sure the 100 degree is going to be that necessary in that mag? The ES 8.8 would also Barlow easier an offer some flexibility?. Anyway, this was/is about filters, though one subject leads onto another.
  10. @John how does this stack up with you? Just working out that my new APM 13 would give me an exit pupil of 2.67mm, so the O-III might not be ideal? What do you use mostly with the O-III filter in terms of EP's?
  11. My town is 410' above John? It took 2 hours Friday for it the have a detrimental effect and nearer 3, for it to be noticeable on the optics inside. In the winter months, I very much doubt I'd be out for that length of time, but I'd like to get my head around it. I live on the edge of town in a relatively high spot. Simple bands around my finders and a shield might be enough?
  12. There isn't a thread I've noted for screwing the 2" filter below a 2" eyepiece on my Bresser, only at the bottom of the 2"-1.25" reducer, which is annoying. Going to change it to a Baader click-lock soon anyway as it quite poor securing a heavy EP. I'll have to screw the filter onto the EP for now.
  13. Bands as far as I'm aware can cover your EP's and finders but I'd like to know more about the ones that wrap around the OTA - do they really work? There seems to be a myriad of suppliers with plates that attach to the rear of the secondary too. And how does the Astrozap heated dew shield actually work when the heat would be around the top ie. nowhere near the mirrors? In hindsight, last Friday night was very saturated and I hadn't expected it at this time of year. But even my primary had a little bit of dew on it when I put the OTA away for the night. Maybe flocking and/or a fan could help? What's the best way/product to power all of this too?
  14. I suffered dew badly on Friday night, after 2 hours observing. I wasn't expecting the problem until later in the year, and so would like to hear everyones thoughts on the subject. I have a 10" dob, and suffered the Telrad, 9x50 finder and EP's all being affected. What are your own solutions? I had thought some dew bands later in the year, but interested to know recommendations on the kit needed.
  15. I couldn't see anything Friday night without a filter (turned up Sat morning) I did however see the Dumbell without one, so at least I have a reference there to see how it differs. It looks to be forecast for a clear evening tonight, but I've got too much on with work this week to afford such a late night, maybe towards the end of the week, fingers crossed.
  16. I've managed to pick up an Astronomik O-III this last week and plan to get a UHC towards the end of the year. Desperately want to see the Veil in all of it's glory first. I'd like the UHC for Orion ideally.
  17. I'll try to remember to have a look at this one too John. I was hoping I might have got a copy of the Cambridge double star atlas for fathers day, but wasn't to be. Another treat for myself soon!
  18. By the time I'd registered on ABS, I''d missed it ๐Ÿ˜‚ But thanks for the heads up. I'll have to fork out for new next month..
  19. Interesting! Iโ€™ll have a read around about them and ask away in an appropriate thread ๐Ÿ˜€
  20. Fair enough. Just trying to understand how you use yours and why you've added a fan. Train of thought was that if you take it out a lot you'd probably want to cool it quickly to start. At home there's normally an hour to cool beforehand at this time of year.
  21. Do you run the fan for a time and turn off during viewing? Do you tend to take your dob out away from home?
  22. Just googled the feet and a review here made me chuckle ๐Ÿ˜€
  23. Thanks for that. There's a couple of interesting additions there that I hadn't discovered yet, like somewhere for the dust cover and the simple idea of some foam on the carry handles. I don't think a replacement base will be this year now, so I might do that, especially when it's cold! Also realise that you can't really just replace the 2" EP locking system without doing the 1.25" too. What real benefit do you get from the fan, is it solely quicker cool down? How quickly can you cool it in theory? At home, I dont the see a need as seems to take an hour so just need to prepare but taking it somewhere could be different? I need to read more around dew control and gear up for that following my soggy session Friday. Does the rear fan assist there much?
