  1. Bit late to this , but , nice image ... ive just ordered one of these scopes ...there doesnt seem to be too many reviews ( the ones ive seen are all in German zzz) .. so , what do you think about the scope ..pros and cons?
  2. ok So heres a little update ... i bought my dob ... a 10" bresser ... oh wow , what a scope ! but , and here's the surprise , i was able to change my Az-GTi with another one and low and behold this one is doesnt slip ... i am now on the look out for a very short tube refractor ... the bresser 102(460) is in the frame as its such a compact and light scope . I want to use it for wide field, and portability is the key here . It says in the blurb that it has ED glass but the only reviews i see are in german lol . ... i actually really like the bresser stuff , although i could be tempted with an ED 72 from skywatcher . Any thoughts on these two ?
  3. Update on my Base issues ... Bresser have apparently been informed , FLO have said i can continue to use the base as there is no problem with a replacement part or indeed whole base .. thats the least i expect ! but its welcome all the same . Clear evening here ... but it doesnt actually get dark until after 10 zzzz Damn these summer nights lol
  4. yes , maybe i didnt explain that well ... itis sturdy for sure , ive got a pic on my pc but the better half is asleep ... Bresser have the pic as i forwarded it to FLO . it looks horrible although it doesnt prevent the tube moving in any way . Im sure i will get it sorted .
  5. Guys , has anyone had a problem with their Bresser base or am i just unlucky ? One of the side panels seems to have "blown", and is flaking . FLO are looking into it and are onto Bresser . I am not sure if i like the base compared to the skywatcher ones , although i think its a good system , and a good look but i reckon the skywatcher ones look a bit more stable . any thoughts ?
  6. Update : Didnt get much time with the scope tonight ... i am begining to hate summer evenings lol ...but after really tightening the screws on the primary , i didnt need any collimation tonight . So ,it was my naivity that was causing the scope to be out every night . And , to be honest , i have to extract it from a pretty tight space in a wardrobe and then travel down stairs etc etc , its like an assault course carrying a 13kg weight (carefully as poss) lol so i was expecting it to need collimating .
  7. i really tightened the screws down last night so i am hoping i wont have to do too much tonight ... of course its the ritual to check before every session , but thats the (unwritten) rules and thats what i do .
  8. Thanks , i i love seeing that little red dot in the centre of my mirror
  9. Hi John , at first i didnt tighten them as much as i should .. the more times i have to do it the more im tightening them .. so it could be the reason. one thing i do notice is that when i tighten them it seems to move the red dot on the collimator . Im getting a bit hooked up on this collimation malarky , trying for perfection . i know its not realistic , but it doesnt stop me trying lol
  10. Thanks for the quick reply ... lol my Baader laser's batteries are worn out already !
  11. Guys, Can i ask a question ? I have to collimate my scope (bresser10"), every time i use it .. i have to store it in my wardrobe and thus its a trickty manoevre to get the scope down so i dont suppose its that surprising , but , is that fairly normal with this scope ?...( ive had refractors most of my astonomy life).
  12. i watched this the other day ... the guy is totally mint and i love his down to earth (pun intended) approach... that was a priceless moment , especially when he tries to justify it
  13. Just bought one of these this week , my wife went a bit crazy when she saw the size of the thing but Venus quickly came to my rescue when she saw it in the eyepiece .. i found a place for the scope in my wardrobe (glad i dont like clothes shopping ) . Like the platform.. . and literally love this scope . for its size its quite portable , which is just as well as where i live there is lots of LP .
  14. yep seeing is doing ... i just meant that to DO is to image and then process .. whereas looking is , well , looking .
  15. so sorry Mark , i deleted my images in disgust , at 1am this morning ! I was defo in the right area , although as it turned out i wasnt right where i should have been .
  16. lol .. im sure i will stll hanker for the next lovely little refractor ..( i did have my ey on the red cat ...NO STU ,STOP IT!!) .. but seriously .. Some people DO , some LOOK ... for me its now the time for looking . Quite excited again ! My poor wife has been astronomyed out for the last couple of months lol
  17. i love this mount ... i actually had one a couple of years ago ... but i must have bought the wrong one this time . I aim to go down a different route now .. when i return this mount i will use the money wisely ( hopefully ) I was going to just get a replacement but im now a bit wary .
  18. its partly that , but , to be honest Mark , i am an impatient astronomer ... i realise those two things do not readily go together but i sure you know what i mean . If i have now found my niche in this wonderful hobby then the time trying astrophotography has been well spent . i will still take photos , but of course they wont be of the standard that i see on here. But , i am ok with that ... i actually , for probably the first time ,realise what i want from astronomy . Namely a fairly large Dob that gives me quick gratification . For some that my seem a bit simplistic , but as we ALL know . Astronomy has many paths and thats the beauty of the hobby
  19. oK , so i need to post an update to the above ... everything was sharp last night , as in stars ... i only took lights , because my aim (joke) was to frame everything ... i failed. I will accept that the astrophograhy side of things is not for me and i will happily go back to visual . So , all of my gear will be put on the FOR SALE section . I will buy a light bucket ( hopefully with a goto system ) probably an 8" Dob. A sad day , but heres to a new , and in my case , happier begining . My god this astronomy hobby puts you through the ringer lol .
  20. Just had another go with the AZ-Gti ... same thing happened .. i was (hopefully) taking shots of M81, and then i told the mount to go to M101 .. at which point i heard a series of clicks , followed by alot of clicks as the camera slipped ... its almost as if the mount got stuck but then freed itself . One things for sure ... its going bak on Monday to the nice telescope man and lady ... i will keep everyone posted about the outcome lol im now trying to take shots of the pinwheel , on the star adventurer , but i doubt if its in the frame .. also i hastily did a polar alignement .. never a good thing !
  21. Hi Sorry , ive only just seen your reply ... thanks a bunch .
  22. yeah i saw the reviews on the wedge , Peter Zalinka trashed it and advised either the SW one or the real deal WO.. WO make good stuff , i love my little refractor , but my patience with that is getting tested at the moment . I used to have a 250 Flex dob and i sold it to get an EQ5 mount which i really hated . Ive spent a lot of money finding out where i want to be in this hobby , and it aint over yet , thats for sure £££££££££
  23. i am going to download stallarium for the phone .. i really like the program , Nigh Sky is ok but a bit sensitive . It does seem that all of us have had or are having problems trying to frame DSO'S . How do you rate the Skyguider Pro ? it was either that or the SWSA . In the end i went fpr the SA only because it has a nice L bracket rotator and it can be upgraded to do more indepth time lapse.. but i havent tried that yet . I like the look of the Ioptron model .
  24. i looked at the ASIair , but i wanted the older model , just to keep the cost down . There will be very clear skies here tonight so i am going to pull out all the stops and give it one more go ( no pressure ) i havent got a guide scope yet so i cant guide .. i do have a zwo120mc-s camera and of course a dslr so ive been using my 100d camera . i tried out the zwo on venus the other night .. it was ok , but its not a target im interested in . Oh and i also am in the apple eco system so sharp cap isnt a solution i can use . i presume the ASIair will work with Mac.
