Just arrived , to join the XW 30 purchased 12 months ago.  Having owned the 20mm, 10mm,  and  7mm in the past I was immediately struck by how small  it is .

Congrats! next to that monstrous 30mm my Toyota would look small.

FC100 DZ due to arrive tomorrow having coveted one of these for a long time. Thanks to those who have helped nudge me over the line. This comes with the Tak clamshell which I believe attaches directly to a scopetech zero mount so apart from a couple of M8 screws I should be good to go with that. If down the line I want to attach this to an AZ100 can I just use a simple dovetail bar like that below (I have a saddle with a D and V profile).

Whenever I get an Astro itch I find the best way to scratch it is to use a credit card, provides a satisfying scratch.

Congrats on a fine telescope! to say the least.

  3. 2021 has been another year of dodging Covid, supply shortages, horrible weather etc. For those who managed some decent time under the stars, have there been any memorable moments in the past year? a new scope, new objects discovered, first astro photo? Let’s forget everything that made 2021 forgettable and share what made it memorable!.

For me it was acquiring my 102 which has been the most exciting acquisition in my astro career, every time I use it it feels like I’m using it for the first time.

    Another amazing book.

This looks like it will be very useful at the eyepiece, very well laid out and practical, much better than endless lists.

    I'm impressed, thanks Agnes.

Where did you get it? I would love one, I think i've heard mention of it here on SGL, I believe a member made it if I'm correct.

  5. Oh this is refreshing! welcome to SGL!

Long before I have owned any telescopes or even looked through one, I have harbored an insatiable curiosity and connectivity to the night sky and its wonders. When I was 7 I recall laying in the back seat of my fathers car on a return home from trips while looking at faint stars out the windows and asking how big the universe is? no matter what my father said, it would prompt ani to er question as if I knew there was much more to his answers. My childhood was fairly chaotic as my brother amd I were uprooted often as my fathers career often required moving from place to place which meant I would loose and gain new friends often. But the universe to me was stable, I would spend countless hours looking up and moving my bed so I could spot a star or two out my window, prompting more daydreaming about flying through space.

When I think about what the night sky meant to me as a child I would say it wasn’t just a curiosity, it shaped me, it allowed me to imagine and daydream about things I could hardly grasp which made it all the more fascinating to my budding mind. In school at my desk I would often wonder about the universe untill the teacher would slap the ruler down and beg my attention. One thing I know for sure is that same childlike fascination has not in the least bit died, I loose myself looking up in the same way now 40 years later as I did as a seven year old.

  6.  A Skywatcher 200P dobsonian mentioned above will fall well within your budget and with room to spare for some nice eyepieces too! not only will it show you more than what you bargained for in the planetary

department but will also be great for deep sky objects. If you can find one in stock or even used you will be well on your way.

  7. My neighbor says he’s color blind and can’t see the red or green, he can tell when they’re lit up and knows to stop or go based on which light is lit in the pattern lol. When he was explaining this it took restraint not to ask if the ministry of motor vehicles knows this lol.

What would happen if he found himself driving where the street light pattern isn’t the same as is common here? Does anyone else have this same issue? it must have been difficult when first driving a car but I’m sure one adapts quickly.
