I was looking forward to the weather this morning but somehow it was not good seeing. The captures were stable but I could not get focus. I tried to derotate 20min of data but it was not good. These are the best two captures at 431 and 459; in the second image Europa (the few pixels on the right) comes out of Jupiter's shadow  and a few minutes later it will be behind the planet. 8" Dob, asi462mc, uv/ir cut filter and 2.5xTV powermate.

    How was your collimation?

Good point Stuart. I am not big fan of adding IR data to RGB to make them look nicer. I could try shoot with RGB filters but without tracking that can be complicated quite quickly even with derotation. Let's see if the forecast for Wed and Thursday morning holds as I want to try again but I think without having an ADC, getting a decent colour image will be hard for me.

Yep, using ir742 as L looks weird but I was very pleased with the red filter results as they made quite a dramatic difference even in good seeing.

For sure if you can pull off RGB filters on manual tracking I'll nominate you for a knighthood 😉

Thats a top notch image of Jupiter from august 10th Stuart. It's beautifully processed with lots of detail showing, You've also managed to keep that lovely natural look too Great stuff. As you mentioned in a earlier post with over 2 months until opposition things really are looking good. I also use FC so thanks for the tip.

    Thanks Martyn.

I'd completely forgotten about the FC app and was looking through some of my old images when I came across one mounted up all fancy and suddenly remembered 🙂

Excellent final image. Really nice details and natural. I like the colours too.

    Is this a new feature?

Thanks Kostas. Think I'll try lower gain next time the seeing is good. I was at 61% on these and noise was pretty bad.

The FC app (session browser) has been around for several years but you do have to use FC to capture the images I'm not sure it will work with images from elsewhere. Its all packaged in the FC download file just a matter of extracting it.

Looking at my Jupiter image from yesterday, I feel it was sharpened on steroids and it was rather unpleasing to my eye. I think the new rendition is much better. I also played with the colour balance.

edit: thanks Stuart @Space Cowboy for your feedback that even my last version was still on steroids 😂. . A much smoother processing now. I think this warmer colour balance is probably better too.

That looks really good! You are ticking all the boxes with that one!

I think that's a lot better even on big screen. It has a lot more details and still being subtle.

Thanks Kostas. Just been looking at a Jupiter shot I took back in 2012 when Jup was at opposition and at over 50 degrees elev. Quite encouraged to see how close this new image is detail wise considering its over 2 months to oppostion :

Steroids hopefully out of the system 😂

That's a lot better. Nicer colour balance no smearing and finer detail though personally I would pull it back a pinch more...just a tiny bit. Remember Jupiter is gas with whispy fine cloud.

I know it's very easy to push for detail especially when seeing is good and all that stuff pops out. I do it often but then need to pull it back.

Ive got to be honest Kostas. The steroids are still in your system 🙂 Looks way over processed to me.

I agree with Martyn above that the 414 is much better in terms of details. From my experience, drizzling usually has a negative effect and I cannot get back as much details. It will be interesting to see your combined derotated images without the drizzle.

The edge rind on the left can also be tidied in registax with deringing bright side option (just a very min-mild level)

For sure as Martyn says 4.14 is the pick of the litter.  I still prefer the drizzle version on my big screen though for sure the others look better scaled down. That fine whispy detail is what I'm looking for as Jupiter is a gas planet and some images lose that gaseous feel if the detail is coarser.

This is a winjupos combo of 4.05 and 4.14 without drizzle. Much smoother than the single shots but I still prefer the drizzle 😉

I'll check that registax feature thanks Kostas!

Dare I say the details in the very first of your images is sharper, details are easier to see.

For sure the detail is more prominent but when I looked at them on my big monitor the detail looks too bloated and they are quite noisy. Quite often what looks great on my laptop looks rough on my pc 🙂
