I reckon you got some cloud detail there Reggie!

Thanks, George! Just a bit, lol. I wish I had had the #80 deep blue to cut down the glare. I have an Antlia UV filter on the way!

Godo effort Reggie. I think it is a bit overexposed during capture (you can see the white edge is washed out) and probably a bit oversharpened. I use the Astromania UV filter and it is working really well considering the cheap price.
Thanks, Kon. I really needed to have used the deep blue #80 filter for the test, and I could have adjusted the polarizer a bit more. I wanted to sharpen it enough to eke out as much detail as possible and probably overdid it. I didn't know Astromania had a UV pass filter; I have an Antlia UV filter on the way to play with!

Following the advice of William A. Paolini in his article "Using Filters for Lunar/Planetary Observation" https://www.cloudynights.com/articl...-filters-for-lunarplanetary-observation-r3261
I stacked the Baader Semi APO, Meade variable polarizer, and a #82A blue filter (I don't have the #80A that was suggested) along with a 2X barlow lens in an attempt to extract some cloud detail from Venus using my ASI224mc attached to my Orion 127mm Mak. I actually got a hint of something! I may have gotten more if I had used the #80A which would have darkened the image quite a bit at only 28% transmission (compared to the 73% of the #82A):Until I get enough pennies to buy the Baader U Venus or Astrodon filters, this will do me just fine 🙃
Cheers,
Reggie

Looks great. It would be interesting to try a UV filter and compare the images. Why not?

Great first shot! It will only get better. Be mindful of the expensive slippery slope that can be astrophotography, lol. But above all, learn as much as you can, have fun, and watch your budget, haha!
Welcome to SGL!

Good show! I was fortunate to get some shots during a break in the clouds

Providence parted the clouds and allowed me to capture the beautiful Venus/Jupiter conjunction on March 1! I took multiple shots at prime focus and with the camera zoom lens:
Prime focus, single 1/5s exposure, ISO 3200 just after sunset
Prime focus, single one-second exposure, ISO 3200 after darkness falls
Camera zoom lens at 300mm, f/5.6, 1/2s exposure, ISO 3200
Camera zoom lens at 55mm, f/5, 1/2s exposure, ISO 3200
Cheers!

It might be an old thread, but it's a good one. Lovely set of images. I'd love to see some more.
Thanks, Michael

Sorry to revive this old thread, but someone shared these in another thread. Their magnificent! How did you take them?
Oldie but goodie, lol. I took these all at prime focus using my 127mm Mak-Cass and Nikon D3200. Love these colorful pairs!

Hi, mate. I used tracking and my 127mm Mak-Cass at prime focus for all but the February 12 shot in which I used a 70-300mm zoom lens. It's kind of sad to see the comet go; it was a fun chase!

As Comet ZTF leaves the solar system, I wanted to post a series of images I acquired during its fast trajectory over the past several weeks (@scotty1 inspired this):
Moving toward Camelopardis past Ursa Minor (prime focus, 1x30s, ISO 6400)
(prime focus, 1x10s, ISO 6400)
On the eve of perigee, moving toward Auriga (prime focus, 1x20s, ISO 6400)
Speeding through the plane of the galaxy in Auriga (prime focus, 1x10s, ISO Hi)
Headed toward Taurus (prime focus, 1x20s, ISO 3200)
In the midst of the Hyades, significantly dimmer (using 70-300mm zoom lens at 210mm, f/5.3, 1x2.5s, ISO 6400)
What a journey!
Clear skies!

Crackin' images, Pete. That Baader UV filter really does the job. I have an Antlia UV filter on the way, a bit cheaper than the Baader (around $200 US) and I hope nearly as good. I'll also be auditioning the Astromania UV filter, part of a three-filter set with a CH4 and IR longpass filters. Should be an interesting time!
