OK, well here's my first attempt at M31/M110. Various subs but nowhere near what I wanted as had to battle the clouds, moon, wind and not to mention, the really busy flight paths that happen to be in that area of sky, so I had a lot of junk. a few darks as battery ran out. DOH! no flats or bias SWE200p/EQ5(motorised) Canon 1100D

  9. Remember to charge the blooming BATTERY!!

  10. Thanks Chris. I am by no means an expert though, as this was my first attempt using the whole setup including DSS and GIMP. The original subs looked pretty good on there own so that helped. Some beginners luck perhaps ;)
  11. M42 2nd attempt tonight?...maybe?? ...no clouds??

  12. From the album: 1100D

First ever attempt at any sort of AP. Was over excited and over eager to use new kit, and when the clouds finally cleared (to some degree) I was so made up by being able to take the images that I didnt spend much time focusing. SWE200P/EQ5(dual motor) - Canon 1100D - 20 x 80sec light sub 1600ISO - 10 x dark using backyardEOS I Used DSS then Bodged it about a bit in Gimp but TBH I am new to all of this, and didn't really know what I was doing, and was enjoying myself too much to care! :) Image uploaded as a visual diary and keepsake.

  23. Still have the image of the Moon burnt into my retinas, but what a great evening its been!!. Note to self: buy Moon filter :)

    1. Qualia

      Qualia

Ay, the Moon does seem bright, but you really don't need a filter. I have ND filter and without it the Moon has brilliant whites and very dark blacks. With the filter the whites are a bit grey and the blacks less black. I'm not certain, but I think the Moon is a lot dimmer than the everyday we deal with.

    So the journey begins.....First Light!!

A quick snapshot with samsung s2 of first look through scope, whilst battling the clouds
  25. From the album: So the journey begins.....First Light!!

A quick snapshot of my first viewing of the Moon with any telescope. Taken with samsung s2-25mm ep/no filter. (think the darker patch in the middle is due to camera not being able the amount of light. After all, it is a phone :) )
