do you use your 127mm mak for visual already?
-
Since this thread was originally started when none EQ imaging was not common there's now a bloom in EEA using short exposures on tracking ALTAZ mounts even the successful and recently launched seestars50 which is altaz goto tracking mount with 50mm and planetary camera sensor live stacking DSO plus other popular smart telescopes like the Dwarf there are many altaz tracking DSO images on this forum no longer just in this thread, it's amazing how fast things change

welcome
things to consider is the distance or if stairs between storage location and observing spot, the weight of any mount or telescope
If they would enjoy the journey of understanding and making the choice on what they get could give them a home made voucher on the gift so you can then do the journey together knowing what the budget is

freedom find as in the ability to use the mount manually and is useful if in the event there is no power, right to if powered and the auxiliary coders are on and the mount aligned and tracking on then if the telescope OTA is moved then the goto can be used again on the target and the mount will move to it. Useful when observing and the person looking moves the telescope

Reading mostly through the thread. Freedom Find is totally manual the ability to loosen clutches and move the telescope by hand with no power. I have this on both mounts az-gti and virtuoso.
I use either a mobile phone running synscan to control the mounts or I also use the pc inside with wifi to control the mounts inside with a mix of synscan, ascom, sharpcap etc. and even the ZWO camera if wanted with either mobile phone or inside using a 10m USB and sharpcap live stacking

what's your current guide scope, if it is a 50ED could use that as the widefield for the time being if go for the mount option as a thought

the ASI224 is sensitive to IR as is my 462 so I will be trying either the UV/IR filter or a CLS CCD I picked up second hand, the CCD bit means it has got the UVV/IR block built in, my light pollution is low ish as bortle 5

live stacking looks really good for getting a real time feel on planetary stacking and the pro feature of planet/disk stabilisation might be useful, I'm loving what sharpcap can give me making everything easier like sharpsolve just need a clear night to play

it's just a wee thing although I have my all sky lens fitted to the ASI right next to me as it is focused for infinity I don't want to test it, I've found the screw works good enough for me, it's a little lens does the job for what it is

The top ring on the all sky lens turns, if it doesn't in do the screw that is in the side of the lens
-
The all sky lens it comes with does also have to be focused. Once in focus use the little screw to tighten and hold focus

Lovely and clean thank you for sharing, edited posting to have full size process. StarTools compose weighting by capture length for luminance and ha also added for NB enhancements | crop just 10 pixels all round | bin 50%| AutoDev | Wipe |AutoDev | used Repair on the stars for the elongation | Sharp | Flux | Noise plus created several masks along the way
Love the detail of this area and the very very long list of interesting facts on it and I like the mono cleanness, the ha file was super strong

that was a nice quick remedy

Clouds are a great opportunity to ensure the finder is aligned with the telescope and perhaps install and get familiar with stellarium

When you say better telescope from the 50ELP do you mean better match your field of view requirement or something else?
-
They're clear enough to enable you to identify the features

Wow they look striking. I think they are Nacreous clouds

Might be worth doing a general search on EEA with 6SE to see what's being achieved, your telescope will be good for Moon and planets anyway.

Thanks for the insight! When you use that piece mentioned for Astrophotography I’m guessing you cannot visual observe at the same time? It replaces the eyepiece?
EEA is live visual observing in that you look at a screen while the image of what you are looking at dynamically builds so brings further life to the smudge and may resolve shape and colour. But yes it is either eyepiece in the focuser or camera. I was only thinking about if you find your bortle sky hard work on DSO what else might extend your hobby

Welcome
The planetarium Stelarium is great to use to see what's up there in your location. Talking cameras and electronically enhanced astronomy EEA which might be an option to look into for seeing more in your back yard, the ASI585MC appears popular due to it's capacity and bit bigger chip then a straight planetary camera.

It seems like since the evoguide this 50mm sector has really grown and this little triplet looks really nice

welcome, i you can posting images as jpegs is quicker to help with and share what the image is.

I've got a 742 pro planet filter for filtering just the IR range, it's interesting too seeing day light objects through it like grass
