  1. Hi there, The observed 'rotation' is due to tracking errors. All the stars in the fov appear to rotate. Besides, the rotational period is over three hours, with a mean amplitude of +0.165. The rotation could be observed, and measured, though.

  6. The object appears stella, so the designation has changed from C/2017 U1 to A/2017 U1.

  8. The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft OSIRIS-REx is on its way to the Near Earth asteroid Bennu, where it will arrive in 2018. To get there, the spacecraft needs to do a gravity assist maneuver. Today, September 22nd, OSIRIS-REx will fly by the Earth. Here it is, 16 hours before closest approach, at a distance of 386,000 km (about the distance from the Earth to the Moon).   9. Hi Gary. I see your first two measurements from your observatory code. Unfortunately the residuals are quite bad. If your other measurements are worse they may not be used.
  10. Near Earth asteroid (3122) Florence (3122) Florence is an Amor-type potentially hazardous asteroid with a diameter of 4.9 km. It will make a close approach to Earth on September 1st, at a distance of 0.05 AU (7.1 million km). During the close approach it brightens to 8.5 mag and becomes visible in small telescopes for several nights. Florence is the largest asteroid to pass this close to Earth since the first Near Earth asteroids were discovered over a century ago.

  12. Hi Steve. I rarely look on SGL. So, would not be able to contribute that much. Astrometry is very, very time consuming unfortunately.

  14. 6063 Jason is an Apollo-type asteroid with a diameter of 1.4 km. It will came relatively close to Earth on May 27, when it is reached mag. +13.6. Jason can be seen here moving at 19 "/min over a period of 20 minutes.
  15. When we plan the observatories schedule we use a variety of sources to determine what asteroids need data to reduce their orbital uncertainties. The asteroid in that link is at very low declination so impossible from our location.
