      Miracles never cease, had a  look at the yt vid and found the connection for the display. Poked it a bit and now the screen is back :headbang: Currently installing win 10 on new ssd, fingers crossed!

      Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Not sure I am up for pulling it to bits to try and fix it but I guess I don't have much to loose :ohmy: Fan comes on ok, difficult to tell if it's booting as HD is very quiet. I put the old HD back in but made no difference.

      New SSD arrived, plugged it in and now the screen has stopped working. No back light nothing. Fan starts when I power it on but nothing from the display. Tried plugging into an external monitor - nothing :mad:

      It's an older processor so may end up replacing the whole laptop to be honest but I figure I would try the cheaper solution first!
