  1. Again, still confused. See pics attached above. My 2' diagonal will screw direct onto the back of the scope ( although I also question the benefit of that as the 'hole' at the back is only 1 1/4 anyway - another issue ). I therefore do not need another visual back to attach it to the scope to use it.
  2. Erm - no. The stock set up does not flip anything. Edit - maybe the stock one IS a correct image diagonal as supplied.
  3. .... and then I find this. Still does not explain things. Do I need to get a visual back that accepts 2" accessories to take full advantage of my 2" diagonal yet keep things all in the right plane?
  4. So I have googled and found some videos but I remain confused. I understand that a view straight through my sct will invert the image left to right and up to down. I understand that a 90 degree prism ( like my 2" xlt celestron diagonal ) will invert just left to right and yes it does just that. I understand ( from you tube ) that a 45 degree erecting prism will show a correct image in both planes What I do not understand is why therefore the stock visual back that came with my scope also shows the image correct in both planes notwithstanding to me it looks like my 90 degree 2" albeit smaller at 1.25" Is there something else about the way a visual back is constructed and works that I am not only totally missing but also cannot find an answer to in the world of google? Is a visual back not a 90 degree prism? I do try and find these things out before running to you guys. 😇. Thank you.
  5. Nice link. Lots to see and learn here. Similar to several others but I liked the immediate simplicity of this one.
  6. Delivery to uk is quoted significantly more than elsewhere which is part of the reason for asking. Mmmm. Not sure. Hope he used the cc. 😉
  7. As a novice myself I love this reply and the information therein. Not into dobs but….. I have taken my plunge with choice of scope and pm’d the OP with details as I have reiterated so often already.. He has not responded. That said, Vlaiv has really summed it up at the end and I think the OP should think more about how easy it is to move and therefore use, how simple it is for beginning and what he can realistically expect to see ( or not ) for the extra buck , or many bucks. It is not all about the money and I get the feeling the OP is trying to match the buy to the dollars available rather than use the money wisely to buy something that will be realistic to use as a starter kit. Hope that makes sense and no offence meant.
  8. Your post made me smile. As a complete novice I took possession of my 1st scope etc mid may and until the last week or so the weather has been absolute " not clear ". Got some solar in and a nice pic of the part eclipse in the brief moment of clear that I had. My scope is larger - 6" sct with starsense explorer. I love it. The last couple of nights were firsts for me also. I had dabbled before with the odd cluster and doubles and started to find my way around. The moon has been rising in daylight too recently ( see avatar ) so more fun. Saturn and Jupiter have opened up to me now though and like you I was gobsmacked the last 2 nights. They rise viewing from outside my front door which is not ideal as I am in a cul de sac with a double street lamp in the middle right outside my door. Notwithstanding that and my Bortle 8 skys, Saturn appeared around 11.30 ish to my view and Jupiter a bit after that. Got down to 187.5 x mag using Baader Zoom and was surprised at how clear the views were seeing as these were very low on the horizon. I just need to master setting up the phone mount with the Baader and getting things right in the dark.. Great sessions though and I feel / share your joy.
  9. I am a beginner and find the starsense explorer VERY usable. I have the 6" but for much less money you could go with the 127. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/celestron-starsense-explorer-series.html None of that motorised nonsense and polar alignment etc etc. Just follow you phone then fine tune.
  10. I am a complete novice but after much research I bought exactly what you are looking at. I am not into astro imaging etc but I have actually taken some great pics with this using my iPhone and the Celestron Phone mount. I love the Starsense set up and find it works almost brilliantly. It gets me there let's put it that way. Not always spot on but that may be me not having it aligned properly sometimes. VERY user friendly for a novice though. The database is great an easy to use. Move it around and it finds itself again no problem. I have added Baader zoom EP and barlow to the set up but find that the stock 40mm is a great start point for most things. Found Jupiter last night for the fist time ( angle of dangle in my garden is rubbish ) and copped a quick shot of the moon before sunset using the 40mm as shown below. Loved it so much made it avatar. PM if you need anything else.
  11. Thank you all for the time and effort gone into some of these replies. I am not looking to replace what I already have ( well not just yet ). Just novice curiosity really. I did spot the wifi and internal battery bits after posting.
  12. All basically the same 6" sct tube though as my Starsense explorer dx 6"
  13. Hi. Can somebody please explain to me the difference between these two packages? I understand that other 6" packages have eq mount etc but these two are confusing me. Thank you
  14. Thank you for that and as I said I do have one already and it works fine and I am confident in its safety etc. It was just that earlier posts indicated other types of filter that do not go over the entire aperture end.
  15. The aperture being the front of then scope yes? So the glass filters being referred to would in my case with a Celestron 6” sct be a 6” job that connects to the very front and covers the whole thing? Sorry to be so basic but I want to get this right and have found here on several occasions that some members refer to the same thing in different ways. 😉
  16. Making no apology for silly question time as this is firmly planted in the beginner section - You guys are ‘banging on’ (no offence meant) about all these glass filters etc - where are these placed. Clearly mine attaches over the entire end of the Tube, job done but I get the feeling you are talking about things that are nearer the eyepiece. As a BIG novice I was very much warned against this type of thing. Am I misunderstanding this. .
  17. This has worked very well for me and is also very secure. No good if it does not match your scope but does your maker do a bespoke one maybe? gets lots of use too as the nights have been so rubbish recently. https://www.harrisontelescopes.co.uk/acatalog/celestron-eclipsmart6.html
  18. Going on from my ‘find’ that I can access these online through my local library, ( correction, I can get Astronomy and Sky at Night plus some specials) some googling suggested that Astronomy was a UK Mag release. Opened a version (attached) to find adverts in there in $. Is it UK or from over the pond? Time will tell which I find most interesting or useful as a novice but at least I have the choice. So, am I also right in saying that the 2 listed in the title are also totally different publications?
  19. Libby is free. I can view on tablet or phone but also on 27" Mac using app free version. Impressed.
  20. Glad I found this thread. Have access to Sky at Night through Libbyapp through local library. Result until I decide whether I would want to subscribe ( the decent thing to do perhaps? ).
  21. Thanks for the replies guys but I am not sure about the mounting options as per original post. No probs with adding a new bit to mount it as long as the holes line up - if that makes sense.
  22. Hi Can anybody please recommend a right angle correct image finderscope for a Celestron 6" SCT tube please. If it needs a simple swqp for the stock rdf finder mount then fine but I do not want to get into drilling holes etc. I was looking at a Celestron 9x50 Illuminated RA/CI Finderscope but don't want to go down the BRAND rabbit hole if it is not necessary or indeed the best route. Furthermore would this be a tad too heavy for the 6"? Thank you
