TAL telescopes were very popular entry level 'scopes.

If you can do some bartering with the seller, you may be in for a good one as they were built like USSR/CCCP military hardware.

As previously mentioned, earlier models may not take 1.25" eyepieces and accessories.

edit: Just found this online article/review http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/documents/65.pdf by Martin Mobberly.

Not all Tal scopes were entry level scopes. The Tal 200K & Tal 250K scopes were mid to higher end  Klepsov scopes.

  2. Hi Ash, and a very warm welcome to the Lounge. I can understand you being eager to purchase a scope. But, there is a phlefera of scopes out there to confuse the uninitiated. I would certainly visit your local astronomy club for advice and hopefully have the experience of viewing and using various scopes  to gain an understanding of your preferences. My advice, if you haven't found your ideal scope prior to your trip to France, is to purchase a good pair of 7 x 50 binoculars.

Yes Steve, but I think I have to tone down this noise reduction.  I just applied it to the first two wavelet layers on this occasion and I like the result better.

I agree Steve, that looks a whole lot better.
