There is one, C-sky telescopes, I will see on the website if it is available! Edit: There doesn't seem to be any mirrors on that website

Show us your homemade telescopes!

Wow! There must be no false color! I always loved the olive green - yellow colour combination? I wonder how it performs on the moon? -
Yes, I also think so, but a 114mm telescope w/terrible mount will cost 165$ here in India!
-
I was recommended on a other forum that I should get a pre-made mirror, but I can't find any cheap, my budget is 110$ mirror only, but shipping costs are double of that, so can anyone recommend me some good pre-made mirrors? (4inch-6inch)
-
Thanks for the answer! Hmm, food for thought, it's really humid here, so I am looking at their mirror of the Newtonian kit (Link: http://www.astromediashop.co.uk/Components.html, Look at their mirror section, first product) with a second diagonal from another company, so will that work? (Main problem is oversized diagonal - 28mm) That's the goal of this, kind of,I want to get a scope as cheap as possible , for moon and star clusters, I was recently recommended(on a other forum) that I should buy a pre-made mirror? So are there any under 60$?

I have pretty bad eyes, one a +2.75 and other +4.5, so will this work? I will try to search it! Well that settles it, binoscope needs to 2 mirrors to be grinded, and both have to alumnised, they have to be mounted on a strong mount, And double the cost of eyepieces (which are very expensive here) Thanks to everyone who answered my question! (Mods: Please lock this thread, my question has been answered!) Clear skies!

I have stumbled upon a very interesting site, upon seeing their products I searched them on SGL, and they seems to have a good reputation, even FLO sells it! I am interested on many of there products, some will be asked in a other thread, so here are some of those questions: 1. Can I see details on the sun with this kit, if not can I see a solar eclipse safely without solar filter? (Link: https://astromedia.de/Der-Sonnen-Projektor) 2. Is this a good, useable telescope? I am going to observe widefield stuff with this! (Link: https://astromedia.de/Das-Newton-Spiegelteleskop) 3. This is a really stupid question, but can I project a bright space object (Such as star clusters) to a screen with this kit? (Link: https://astromedia.de/Das-Kleine-Galileo-Teleskop) 4. Can I create a eyepiece with these lens (specifically plossl's) Link: https://www.astromediashop.co.uk/Components.html, Look at the acrylic glass section) Other questions will be asked in a other thread, thanks for reading! Clear skies!

2 waves? Can I have a interferometry test report, just for the laughs! Thanks for the idea, it actually seems a very good plan, I might actually do it! I actually wanted to do that, the local astronomy group is actually a bit small, and what I could know from online reviews it has a 6 inch custom-made dobsonian, the problem is that it is closed because of COVID. I will visit them before building/buying/renting a scope. Oh, I was having a thought on f/9, link here: https://tejraj.com/telescope-making-kit-indian.html (first one), so if I have satisfaction using a 70mm f/10 of probably 1/4 wave, will this be good? Also was the telescope you were talking about, what bortle sky were you using it? Was it a good mirror? What secondary did you use?
-
Just as the title, show us your homemade scope! Please also include aperture, focal lenght or ratio and performance. Mine: I have a 60mm f/11.5 in a unfinished state, which I will post pics of when completed! Clear skies!
-
Not that it's about the aperture, it's about the f.l., according to a post made by Dave Knisely's reply (Number 14th) which can be found here: https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/447807-parabolic-or-spherical-mirror/ Says that the minimal size for a diffraction limited spherical 6 inch Newtonian is f/12.1 or around 80inches of tube! But a 4 inch (and potentially a 5 inch) has a minimum of f/10.6 which is around 40inches of tube, I find a 30 inch tube pretty portable and grab n' go but 80inch? Might be a problem for grab n' go Thanks for the suggestion, and that's what I exactly did when I thought of buying/building a scope (with the help of SGL, astronomy.tools, and other forums ). It seems that long focal ratio is good for planets, moon, and other objects that need high magnification (Doubles) and it has a small secondary, Low focal ratio is good for widefield (DSO's, as you said) and has a large secondary. I was looking at a 6 inch f/6 which would have been portable, but many people say it is very hard to parbolise a mirror, or regard it as the hardest part, and some people say it has some coma, so I think I am heading towards spherical mirror, which performs bad when used at high focal ration

What do you exactly mean by dark? Did you mean the background or the image? I have seen dobsonian bases on the smallest of apertures as well, so what's the problem with that? Even though I am going to use it for planetary, planets don't rise high for about 6 months so,what about DSO's? So, is the six inch better than the 4, 5 inch? Also, the tube is the main question, I want a grab n' go dobsonian, so the 6 inch is not feasible, refer to this post:
-
Also, I might go with a f/10 4inch and mount it on a dobsonian
-
What do you exactly mean by "perfect" views? Does that mean that it has sharp fov for a larger magnification?
-
What do you think about a 5 inch? My hands are quite small compared to an average person!
-
This is absolutely mind-blowing considering its a smartphone photo!
-
No, this will be my first mirror grinding project, the problem with 6inch is I am a bit hesistant to make a parabolic mirror, so I might be going for a sperical mirror, but according to this thread: https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/447807-parabolic-or-spherical-mirror/ (Read Dave Knisely's reply) The mirror should have to be a f/12.1, Which is 76 inches! That's why I have been looking at either two 4inch f/12 or a 5inch f/12.5
-
Thanks for the detailed answer! I am not experienced in mirror grinding, infact I have never grinded a mirror, I didn't got the meaning of "potentially more complex to use", And I never had a experience with binoscopes, but it seems that binoscopes give more 3d effect to objects. Also why is it harder make a binoscope?
-
Thanks for the compliment!
-
I have a question is that I can get two 4 inch mirror grinding for the price of one 6 inch mirror grinding kit, I am thinking of building a 4 inch binoscope, so is the binoscope be better than a 6 inch?

Telescope reccomendation
spacegalaxy replied to spacegalaxy's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Thanks for the answer, but for which dob? There are three, Zhumell Z100, Zhumell Z114, Startracker 114mm/500mm, I am also looking at skywatcher heritage 100p, which including shipping charges is as much as Zhumell 114mm dob, but has more accesories (2x Barlow, better plossl eyepieces) The 2x Barlow can be used for also viewing the planets, occasionally, so it is a more general scope (It is also available at this time, unlike the Zhumell dobs) -
Telescope reccomendation
spacegalaxy replied to spacegalaxy's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I am going to observe from home..........most of the time, but I am looking for a portable telescope (Grab n' go, Table top telescopes, anything that requires one trip only! Assembly not included) -
Hello SGL! I am looking for a telescope under 150£/200$ (For DSO's) any telescope under this budget will be appreciated (I would like the telescope to be as cheap as possible) I am looking at these options: 1. Zhumell Z100 - 100mm aperture, fixed primary, main concern is that it won't be a much of an upgrade over my 70mm f/10, total price w/o shipping 99$(I expect 50$ shipping with this. 2. Zhumell Z114 - 114mm aperture, primary can be adjusted, total price w/o shipping 149$ (50$ shipping, this tops my budget.) 3. Any of these - https://tejraj.com/startracker-reflector-telescope.html 76mm - 127mm, most likely spherical mirror, will make a dobsonian mount, these are the local company in india (INR 13800 = 184$, anything below that) You can also recommend any telescope under that price, minus the shipping price. Also please don't recommend telescopes that are expensive.

Thanks for the detailed explanation!
