  1. Good reasons here - speaks for itself, great choice Astro74 “bigger primary and smaller obstruction” and full 127 apature, unlike the sw 127 which is 118-120 at best
  2. Great choice this thread above is a great review by johninderby
  3. I agree with Astro74- the azi gti is fab no doubt about it but if you want to image you need a wedge and it’s extra to buy it so I agree go to the star adventurer gti and use it as an eq for both visual and Astro imaging
  4. The Bresser is a longer focal length and slower , I’d say a sharper and more of a planet killer than the skymax imo and I believe it’s better built with its full 127 light gathering ability (the skymax is only actually 120) and larger primary mirror - a better ota all round in imho - but it’s all personal choice of course !
  5. Hi Oxize I settled on the RVO 60mm doublet in the end thank u ☺️
  6. This is why I think for me the star adventurer is the better bet - it can be used to image and for visual use with out the wedge installation as it’s already set up to go , perfect if you want to do both - so long as you don’t mind polar alignment of course
  7. Thanks for this it’s helpful 👍🏼 I think the star adventurer would be a better option for me as it’s sounds like the azi gti isn’t quite upto the EQ side of things although it’s superb at what it does best for visual use. The key advantages of the star adventurer is it can be used for both 👍🏼
  8. I was wondering if it was a user friendly alignment and use for imaging? it seems to be a better packaging imo fit AP and visual all in one as opposed to the Azi Gti edge set up and update of firmware etc
  9. Second that and good advice - Stellina is in budget as someone mentioned and would take all the hassle away if it’s imaging you wanted to do, the scope you have chosen is brilliant but it’s a beast and the mount is not suited to Astro imaging, it’s a visual setup and I’d say get used to it first without rushing in to buy additional gear.
  10. Both good choice for a starter into visual - it’s personal choice both will give your decent light grasp and the same experiences visually, in terms of brand it’s personal choice, I personally like Bresser they are well made scope but doesn’t mean it’s a better one. Optically the same , for me it come down to price, weight and accessories 👍🏼
  11. Hi, has anyone used the above eq mount for any visual use, just wondering if it’s practical for both visual and occasional imaging as it’s a full eq set up unlike the azi gti which can be converted ti eq with a wedge. I’m thinking this mount maybe offers me more being eq from the get go but I’d be interested in anyone’s experience of it for visual and imaging use before I take the plunge.
  12. Thank you 😊 I have to say I think this might be the one I’ve been looking for much appreciated
  13. https://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/rvo-horizon-60-ed-doublet-refractor-ota.html Hi all does anyone have any experience with the above OTA - RVos 60ED Doublet Refractor in looking for a decent portable set up to begin imaging g with and this has been suggested as it’s very affordable and looks good from the information I have been able to find. I’d appreciate any opinions on it before I push go on it 👍🏼
  14. Yea read it thanks but didn’t find it particularly insightful comparing it to others in particular the sharpstar 61
  15. Hi does anyone have any experience of using this for imaging and how it might compare to the sharpstar 61
  16. The red cat is quality there’s no doubt but, imo it’s a tad over priced for its size, one could argue it’s a beauty and it’s cheaper than buying an item you’ll never use and maybe end up being frustrated with, the sharpstar is is a decent alternative imo
  17. The sharpstar 61 is the one I’m leaning towards after quite a few good recommendations
  18. I love how my question has evolved in to such debate 😂 all good to read Chaps and we have shown how passionate we are for own scopes and preferences 👍🏼 it’s what this forum is all about
  19. Think I’m leaning To the sharp star 61 as it’s priced mid way and has excellent reviews - thanks all
  20. Hi Location depends where I am interns of LP my suburban garden is poo but I have access to a local dark site
  21. Hi thanks for this. Yes I agree I’ve been doing that for some time over a range of scopes but now looking at AP for deep sky imaging. Mount wise any of them will fit in the azi gti eq conversion including guide scopes and cams etc so no issue with that it’s just deciding on the quality of the ota but I think I know the answer deep down 👍🏼
  22. Yes must admit I’ve never heard a bad word about the red cat - seems to be a quality instrument
