9x50 Finder Dew Shield

Here's something I've been meaning to do for ages but never got off my back side to do... a simple dew shield for my 9x50 Finder, which has a nasty habit of dewing up despite the dew heater tape I treated it to.

I used some of that 5mm foam card available from those cheap crafty shops such as The Works, and some self-adhesive Velcro tape.

Have not tested it yet in the field, but can't see why it shouldn't help at least.

Hi Jonathan, what a beautifully simple and cheap idea, I have no doubt that will work. I to have problems with my meade lx 200 14 inch finderscope dewing up even with the heater strap working overtime. Although its not a major problem ,its a niggle that really gets on my nerves. Great idea......guess what ill be doing today!!!! lol

Have to come clean, the sticky on the velcro wasn't great and it eventually came unstuck.  Thin foam isn't very friendly with strong glue so it may require something a bit more physical such as a paper fastener (one of those that splits open like a split pin) or just some good old reliable PVC tape wrapped around each end a few times, maybe a band in the middle too.

Perhaps, 7+ years is a good enough time of service for a simple DIY design :) ?

I'm personally usually have such stuff 3D printed as soon as needed just overnight since exactly the 2013th :)

Nowadays, with the prices on good printers well below $200, there is no excuse for an amateur astronomer with the DIY passion to ignore that severely money-, time-, and effort-saving tech :)
