Perseids pings

Hi Philip,

Stonking nights work there.  One of our contributors to Elan Valley Astronomy, a facebook group we co-run, observed a fireball event in the early hours of the 13th and duly reported it to SPA. They managed to find one other observer who also saw it visually to "confirm" the event, but I was delighted to see on your MP4 clip, a massive ping at the exact time our contributor recorded the event visually. - 02.51 UT or 03.51 BST.  Hope you don't mind but I've grabbed a screenshot of the event to send to him, sure he'll be delighted to see it further recorded.

Best wishes,

Les

Hi Les

The only thing is that if Philip is using the Graves transmitter I think he will only record events occurring over southern France and similar regions, not here. Interesting that there should be an event at the same time though, although it has to be said  that they were pretty frequent.

He says that he started at around 9pm. The first frame is 7.44pm, so I guess his recordings are using UT; does that tally? Unfortunately I didn't have my system running that period, as I was away. I expect Steve will have recorded any event then?

Cheers

Ian

Hi,

I've looked through my archive for around that time on the 13th and indeed SL provided a screenshot (see attached) of something lasting 25 seconds+. As Ian notes this would be something picked up in the arc of the GRAVES radar and not over the UK at that time. It was of course a busy period, my system recorded 105 detections in that hour but only .

Regards,

Steve
