New ASI120mc-s with sharpcap, error during preview...

Hi,

I have just bought the above mentioned camera, and it works fine on my USB 2 ports, but if I connect to my USB 3.0 port, it is not even found in Firecapture, and in sharpcap 2 and the latest 2.5, it is found but just an "error during preview" box coming up on screen.....with this number after it. (0x80040209) whatever that means

Any ideas ??

My USB 3 port works fine for other devices and it has the latest driver, for the camera, but have tried an older driver too, but it is the same....

Well after a bit of research, looks like the windows 8 USB 3.0 driver is not compatible with these cameras, and as in windows 8 the driver is built in so can't be altered in any way, then I am stumped, well what a waste of money this camera was for me.......

I think ZWOPTICAL should be much better at testing these things before releasing them to the market......

Anybody want to buy one...??

Hi,

It has turned out not to be the camera at fault but my USB 3.0 controller on my laptop, it is not powerful enough, I have tried on another lapto and works prefectly and easily get 60fps.

They are genuine USB 3.0 on these cameras, but they are not compatinle with all USB 3.0 computer chipsets, as I have now found out.

There is an over locking feature too but this is to make it even faster that USB 3.0, but you need a mega good PC for that to work.

If in doubt I would stick with USB 2.0, but in saying that I had the USB 2 version before this and got 27fps, on full res and in colour,

and with this new USB 3 on but running on a USB 2 port i get 32fps, so it is a bit better on USB 2 than the actual USB 2 camera.

As a matter of interest, which laptop did work and which didn't?

It was my Lenovo S20-30 laptop that did not work, and an HP i3 laptop that was superb..
