Skywatcher UHC filter issues

Recommended Posts

I have a problem as you can see I am getting a bad reflection whilst using my 2" SW UHC filter. I only get this using this filter and have done since I bought it hence I don't use it. I was trying it out tonight to try and get rid of the glow from the Moon but this didn't work anyway. Does anyone have any idea how I can get rid of it? Or is it an issue with the filter. This filter is highly reflective almost mirror like. I only get the reflections from the brightest stars.

Thanks for any help

All i can say is that it is a UHC filter. Its designed to give contrast to certain types of nebulae. Its not designed to work as a moon filter or a light pollution filter. Its not even designed to observe stars. The reflection in your image looks like a collimation issue.

Thanks I was trying to image M42 this is a cropped image just to show the reflection. The scope is collimated I checked with my collimator and checked with an unfocused star which was very round. If you check the star you will see it round with no signs of elongation. I know the reflection is a bit squished but it's a reflection.

Looking at the stars in what you posted, they are wide. The reflection may be distorted similarly to what astigmatism would do, and could be from being a reflection, but the circle in the middle is off center which indicates a collimation problem. Do you have a high power EP to do a star test?

I have done a star test it was fine I collimate my scope prior to all sessions. Everything was inline. This happens every time I use this filter and only this filter. I'm not sure what Kalasinman means by the stars being wide they look tound to me remember this is a cropped image so the stars are blown up

Sorry mate I wasn't having a pop. Yep it's very frustrating. I don't think lights or darks even get rid of it. I will check my image train next time I'm out though just to be on the safe side. I do appreciate all comments. Thanks
