Which stacking software..who uses what and why?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm looking for opinions on stacking software. I've used DSS and Nebulosity. I'm not always happy with DSS results and find Neb a real chore. Is there some middle ground or do I just have to go through the pain?

On that, I would be keen to hear what others are using and why?

Thanks

I've been using AstroArt for years....

It controls all my cameras for image acquisition.

It does all the necessary batch pre-processing of Flats/Darks/lights, stacking and final processing.

(You also get guiding and plate solving thrown in!)

How do you find that?

Yes it's very good, seems well laid out and has lots of functions, which I need to find out what they do.

Taking it slowly and gradually finding what it can do, just need more imaging time for better data.

I bought the version without camera control so cannot comment on that, I control my 60Da with a remote.

I'm happy with the purchase, Mike answers emails quickly and there are video tutorials on the disks.

It will get caught by customs, so add VAT and the Royal Mail fee to the price.

It is effectly cheaper at the moment as the pound has risen against the dollar.

How do you find the stack routine in AA as someone else had mentioned that?

Gedan,

I regularly use AA5 to stack up to 60 subs (with Darks), hot pixel removal etc. for spectroscopy.

Fabio has recently added a "Spectrum" stacking option in response to requests....

The "Tools"/"Preprocessing" gives various option - see attached.

Certainly works very well for me.
