Luna - last night (11 Apr 11)

Conditions were pretty good last night for some video caps of the moon. I was happy with the results - must have been a good night in many parts of the world as numerous 11 Apr lunar shots have been popping up.

Gear: 4.5 reflector with variable polarizing lens

Camera: Orion StarShoot Solar System Color Imager IV

Software: Captured with SharpCap and processed with Registax 6.

Shot 1 - Luna in all her glory

Shot 2 - The southern terminator - of note (from bottom to top) in the image are Rupes Recta (the fault line in Mare Nubium between Birt and Thebit A), Tycho (deep crater with the entire rim illuminated), and Moretus (illuminated rim and central mountain just peaking above the shadow).

Shot 3 - The Vallis Alpes region - of note are Craters Plato, Aristoteles, Eudoxus, Aristillus, and Autolycus. Additionally Montes Alpes and Caucasus are near center. Vallis Alpes is centered.

Shot 4 - Eastern shore of Mare Imbrium - of note are Plato, Archimedes, Aristillus, Autolycus, Timocharis (along the terminator line), and Eratosthenes (also along the terminator line). Montes Alpes, Caucasus, and Apenninus.

Shot 5 - The Mare Tranquillitatis region. The Sea of Tranquillity is centered with Serenity right, Fruitfulness left, and Crisis bottom. The prominent bright crater just above the Sea of Crisis is Proclus.

Enjoy.

Very good images!! How are the viewing conditions in Northern Cali?

I live just north-east of Sacramento and conditions are nice from April through December. Very few clouds are ever seen from about May through mid-November. By January we enter three months of near constant rain and fog.

When it's good - it's good. When it's bad - it's aweful.

Getting away from light polution requires 30+ minute drive. :p Driving about an hour gets you into very dark mountains. :)

Overall if it weren't for the cost of living I'd love it here.
