Binning with a OSC

Hi All,

Well its as the title suggests, what do I get if I bin with a OSC I am aware that 2 x 2 is 2 pixels wide x 2 pixels deep but does this mean that the bayer matrix is defunkt and effectivly I am imaging in mono or am I still imaging in colour and what would be the benefits if any be ??

Thanks

John

I use 2x binning (or higher) to get an image for centering on the chip, shorter time loop and (usualy) quicker download speed, but as stated the image will be mono. I suppose you could use it in conjuntion with a Ha filter for narrowband.

You end up with 4x the luminance data, but no colour information at all. Only really useful. Unsure how having 2 green pixels will affect the lum balance, as it will be made up from 1 x Red, 1 x Blue and 2 x Green.

I suppose you could use it in conjuntion with a Ha filter for narrowband.

That doesnt actually help, as a 2x2 pixel area will still only have 1 pixel that picks up Ha data, so binning wont increase the Ha data in any way. Binning it will actually add the low level noise from the green and blue pixels that havent received any data.
