Need advice on new scope for solar photography

Recommended Posts

Your system is aperture limited by the front filter. You will need to extend the focal length to f/20 - f/25 to enable the camera to resolve all the detail available; a good 3x barlow or tele-extender will allow you to do this.

The scope will be fine; to resolve significantly more detail you will need to buy a bigger etalon & this will be very expensive.

I'd say using a x2 or x2.5 Powermate would pull out as much resolution as necessary.

With a 50mm filter your base scope sounds OK.

I use my double stacked SolarMax60 filters on an ED80 plus the x2.5 Powermate and either the DMK21 or DMK41.

(Brian beat me to it!)

Sounds good then, I just ordered a 2.5x Powermate.

Will a bigger blocking filter do anything to detail or is it just to give a brighter image surface? Today I'm using a BF600.

If you can find them!

A larger BF just gives you a better, wider FOV - no difference to the image.

I have a Coronado BF10 (10mm) and a BF15 (15mm) - in real use there's nothing to choose between them.
